Ben Johnson was a standout multi-sport athlete at Basehor-Linwood High School, he was rated the #4 prospect in the state of Kansas as a senior. A 3-star recruit, Johnson signed to play football for the University of Kansas where he would go on to earn All-Big 12 honors in both 2015 and 2017. In 33 games for the Jayhawks he would amass 53 catches for 590 yards with 2 touchdowns.
Ahead of the 2018 NFL Draft talent evaluator Matt Miller would call Johnson the biggest 'sleeper' at the tight end position. After going undrafted Johnson signed with the Los Angeles Chargers prior to the 2018 season.
